Sarqit loves to work within the community. MVNC is a cherished gem hidden among the neighborhoods. With it's focus on nature and the natural landscape of Colorado combined with it's history, it makes a wonderful place to teach.

Spoon Carving

Have you ever gone camping and forgotten your spoon?! Or sat around camp just whittling on a stick? 
This class will teach the necessary skill and technique of carving a spoon out of wood. We at Sarqit believe that ice cream tastes better when eaten with a wooden spoon!

Outdoor Cooking

May 12-Cowboy Style
Dutch Oven to Ash Cakes. Orange reins to bamboo. Lets learn to cook outside and over a fire in many different nifty ways. We’ll focus on “trail food”, incorporating the exceptional dutch ovens and other creative cooking apparatuses. Come ready to enjoy a wonderful fire, great people, and tasty food.

Dutch Oven to Ash Cakes. Orange reins to bamboo. Lets learn to cook outside and over a fire in many different nifty ways. We’ll focus on cooking without any metal pans, just useing what nature creates. Come ready to enjoy a wonderful fire, great people, and tasty food.

Survival - Plant Walk

April 30: 10:00 am-noon 
Nature surrounds us and is clothed with plants. Their diversity and complexity is marveling and can take a life time to learn, so lets start now. This interactive plant walk with Sarqit’s survival instructor will focus on tool plants, plant characteristics, and of course a few edible ones.

Survival - Friction Fire

April 30- 1:00 pm-3:30 pm
The light of fire has dazzled mankind for centuries.Creating fire from what you can find around you in nature is a life changing and gratifying skill. Come and learn from Sarqit Outdoor Living School the ancient technique of making fire by friction, without question the most important outdoor living skills.

Loom Beading

Wednesday, March 4.  6:30-8:30
Ages 10 yrs. to Adult, $25.
Weaving beads with a loom is a beautiful and traditional Native American art form.

Buckskin Pouches & Indian Bead Work

Wed. June 3 & 10      6:30pm - 8:30pm
Medicine Bag, Remembrance Pouch, Phone bag, whether traditional or modern design came sew a pouch using traditional brain tanned buckskin. Then take the pouch you make and learn how to bead a design on top of the buckskin.
$30 / $25 ($45 for both)

Rope Making

We use rope every day, often without thinking twice. We take for granted how it used to be a prized commodity.  Come learn to make rope with natural and synthetic materials. See how strong toilet paper can be in a toilet paper tug-a-war.

Rawhide Rattles

Wed Nov. 11 & 18      6:30pm - 8:30pm
The sound of a rattle is one we’ve know since childhood. The rawhide rattle is one of the oldest forms of a rattle and can be customized to however you like. The sound, the shape, the handle are all unique made by the crafter of this great instrument. In the two days you will learn how and make your own rattle.

New Tribe Summer Camp

July 6 - 10 or Aug. 3 - 7
9am - 3pm
As a new tribe is formed we must find our belonging place and learn to live together in the wild. We will learn and practice survival skills and learn the way of nature. We will construct shelter, create fire, and learn of the useful and harmful plants. We will hike, play, and explore nature and the habitat that surrounds us as well as discover how we can be positive influences for the world.

Weave, form, and craft your very own Angel out of cattails. Excellent as a christmas tree top, mantle display, or a play doll for your child or yourself.
